Coordination chemistry
- modern aspects of the coordination chemistry, of the transition metal ions and lanthanides (mono- and poly-nuclear coordinative compounds), precursors of (nano-)materials with special properties: magnetic, optic, electric and (photo-)catalytic properties;
environmentally friendly materials synthesis;
- synthesis of the compounds with potential therapeutical activity;
- luminescent molecular materials obtained by self-anssembly processes;
- study of the magnetic properties of the polynuclear coordination compounds;
- the corelation between the structure of the coordination compounds and their biological activity.

Supramolecular chemistry
- metallo-supramolecular chemistry;
- polymetallic supramolecular architectures through the interplay of coordinative bonds with other non-covalent interactions (hydrogen bonds, π - π staching, metallophilic interactions);
- studies of equilibrium and non-equilibrium processes in the supramolecular chemistry in order to separate complex mixtures, detect types of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters and establish the correlations between structure, chromatographic behaviour, biological and pharmaceutical activity;
synthesis of the compounds with predetermined physico-chemical properties based on a directed structural design;
