The research activity of the department is oriented towards the development of knowledge based multifunctional materials and it is structured on the following directions:
Advanced materials based on doped-phosphate glasses (II-VI semiconductors, III d transitional ions, rare earth ions) for optoelectronics applications as bulk produced by a non conventional wet method and as thin films produced by sol - gel and/or PLD (pulse laser deposition);
Micro and nano metal organic complexes with rare earth embedded in polymer hosts with applications in optoelectronics;
Non-conventional methods (mobile solvent, mobile heating element) for producing Heusler and half Heusler materials (NiMnSb Co2Mn(Si, Ge, Ga, Sn, Sb) as well as some solid solutions of types Co2Mn X(1-x)Yx particularly studied for their applications in spintronics;
Photonic materials based on amorphous and crystalline GaN thin films;
Photonic structures consisting of multi-layers of SiOx+P2O5 / ITO / SiOx+P2O5 /ITO;
Composite materials ceramic/polymer with applications in information technologies;
Determination of magneto-optical characteristics of materials (Kerr effect) using the experimental set-up;
Change and heat transport analisys in semiconductor nanostructures using the experimental set-up for Seeback effects;
Structure and properties of materials using IR UVVIS and Raman spectroscopy.
