Presentation

The research activity of the MSL mainly regards the superconducting, dielectric and magnetic thin films grown both by physical and chemical methods. Thus, the laboratory is involved in the development of YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) high temperature coated conductors fabrication technology comprising the chemical methods for the epitaxial deposition of YBCO superconducting films and oxide buffer layers on Ni-based biaxially textured substrates. Lately, new research directions in the field of magnetic multilayers with giant magnetoresistance and self assembled films have been opened. The researches carried out on bulk materials regard the low neutron activation eutectic alloys for the brazing of SiC/SiCf composites, the preparation of silver free brazing alloys for Be barazing, Ni-based biaxially textured tapes and magnetic intermetallic compounds.

UHV e-beam evaporation equipment with 8 pocket crucible and 10kW e-gun having a base pressure of 10-7 Torr, it also has an Inficon XTC thickness control monitor, a substrate heater with a temperature range between 20-1000 oC and a residual gas analyzer (Stanford QMS-200).
